Privacy Policy
Effective September 16, 2026
Determiniety (“dety”) is a community and resource platform for people with disabilities, their families and the organizations that serve them. It is operated by BluPreserva Industries in Brooklyn, New York. This policy covers the dety.io website and the Determiniety mobile app (together, the “Service”). We wrote it in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, email hello@dety.io.
1. What we collect
We only collect what the Service needs. Most of it is information you choose to give us.
- Account. Your email address, a password (stored only as a one-way hash), and your account role (for example: individual, vendor, institution, school representative).
- Profile you choose to share. Name, date of birth, phone, language, location (country, region, city or ZIP) and accessibility preferences such as simplified language or preferred response length. These are optional.
- Sensitive information you choose to share. To match you with resources, programs and products, you can optionally tell us about your disabilities, health conditions or medications, student or school identifiers, household size, income band, veteran status and insurance status. We ask for this only where a feature needs it, we ask for your consent first, and every one of these fields can be left blank. We never require it to use the Service, and we never use it for advertising.
- Content you create. Posts, comments, reviews, reactions, bookmarks, follows, groups and forum threads, direct messages, and documents you upload.
- Orders and payments. If you buy or reserve something through the Service, we keep the order details. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not see or store your full card number.
- Usage and device information. Things like the pages and searches you use, the type of device and app version, IP address, and error or performance reports so we can keep the Service working. You can turn off search history in your settings.
- Permissions on your phone. The mobile app may ask for permission to use your location (to find resources near you), your camera or photo library (to upload a document), or Face ID / fingerprint (to unlock the app on your device). Each of these is optional, only used for that feature, and you can decline or turn it off in your phone settings. Biometric data never leaves your device. Push notification tokens are stored only if you turn notifications on.
2. How we use it
- To run the Service: sign you in, show you resources, products, opportunities and community content.
- To match and personalize: if you opt in, we use the profile details you gave us — including disability information — to surface programs, benefits and products relevant to you. This is off unless you turn it on.
- To complete orders, reservations and service requests you start.
- To keep people safe: moderation, safety reports, fraud prevention and security logging.
- To support you and answer your messages.
- To improve the Service, using aggregated or de-identified information where we can.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use disability or health information to target advertising.
3. Who we share it with
- Service providers who help us run the Service, under contracts that limit what they can do with it: Railway (hosting and database), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Sentry (error diagnostics), and Apple, Google and Expo (app distribution and push notifications).
- People and organizations you choose to interact with. If you order from a vendor or request a service, that vendor receives the details needed to fulfill it. If you post publicly, other users can see it.
- Schools and institutions. Where student-related features are used, they are provided through a participating school or institution under an agreement with them, and the school controls who at the school can access student records.
- When required. To comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights and safety of users, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (we would tell you first).
4. Students, schools and children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Student-related features exist for participating schools and institutions, are subject to the school’s agreement with us and to laws like FERPA and COPPA, and are designed so that sensitive student information is visible only to authorized school staff. Student photo features are off by default. If you believe a child has given us information without the required consent, email hello@dety.io and we will delete it.
5. Your choices and rights
- See and change your information. Most of it is editable in your Account and Profile settings. For anything else, email us.
- Delete your account. In the mobile app, go to Account → Delete Account. On the web, email hello@dety.io. Deleting your account immediately and permanently destroys your profile information (including any disability, health, student and eligibility details), removes your login so the account cannot be used again, and records only that a deletion occurred. We are extending deletion to cover individual content such as documents and order history; until then, ask us and we will remove it for you. Some records must be kept for a limited time where the law requires (for example, payment records).
- Turn things off. Personalization by disability, search history, and push notifications can each be switched off in settings.
- Your legal rights. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, receive a copy of, or restrict or object to our use of your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Email us and we will respond within the time the law allows. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we handle it as described above. Security, audit and payment records are kept only as long as needed for safety, legal and accounting purposes, then deleted or de-identified.
7. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. On your phone, sign-in tokens are kept in the device’s secure storage (Keychain or Keystore). Access to sensitive records such as student or health information is logged. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us right away if you think something is wrong.
8. Where your information lives
Our servers are in the United States. If you use the Service from somewhere else, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
9. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top and, for meaningful changes, tell you in the app or by email.
